SS1

Well

I've been biking more of late. It has been exhilirating to get out and hammer on the trails with the bros. Last weekend a couple of us went to Kettle Moraine Park in Wisconsin. We started at the John Muir trail head and rode over to Emma Carlin. When we hit Emma Carlin my legs just blew out. I had nothing left. The remaining 8 or so miles were brutal. My buddy tim just kept it steady eddie and finished strong. I had to walk up a couple of hills but i didn't puke or give up. Well technically you couldn't give up because it was a one way trail and our cars were parked at the other end. We ended up riding 25 miles of trails, for me that is a lot.

While i was up there as saw a freak of nature: a guy on a single speed bike. If you are at all familiar with mountain biking you know those guys are a different breed. This guy kicked some major butt. Somehow that got my buddy aaron to bring his single speed out to the cut on Thursday. I rode it for a brief second and was intrigued. So I decided i wouldn't shift my bike the whole time I rode. well i managed to achieve the monumental task(okay monumental might be an exaggeration) it was a bit freeing not be shifting all the time and really struggle up hills. It was not as hard as i thought. So now i have the bug to build one up. I just bought a used shock on ebay to replace my cashed out 97 Judy race, so i have a extra shock, frame, seat, seatpost, and a line on cheap cranks. Just a few more bucks and i could be cruising single speed style when the mood hits. there is only one danger, my quads and calves could become ginormus and hinder my ability to function like a normal human being.

Anyway if you haven't gotten out on your bike in awhile, get out and ride and feel the wind in your face, dirt in your ears, and mud on your bottom. Keep the rubber side down.

PEACE
